NCDHHS Reaffirms Importance of Vaccines to Protect Children, Encourages Parents to Consult Health Care Providers
Following the Aug. 10, 2026, Executive Order on childhood vaccines, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services reaffirms the importance of vaccines to protect children and encourages parents and caregivers to consult their pediatricians or health care providers. State Health Director and NCDHHS Chief Medical Officer Dr. Larry Greenblatt made the following statement:
"Vaccinations play a vital role in protecting children, their families and communities from the preventable spread of infectious diseases. Nothing has changed regarding the strong evidence supporting current vaccine recommendations and vaccines remain widely available and accessible for individuals and families throughout the state. Individuals and families should speak with their provider about which vaccines are recommended and available to them."
At this time, North Carolina does not anticipate changes to our clinical guidance regarding childhood immunization. Vaccines are available at private medical offices, community health centers, local health departments and pharmacies. Children from birth through 18 years of age who meet eligibility requirements may be vaccinated at no cost through the Vaccines for Children program at VFC-enrolled provider locations.
